Lough Derg FC AGM and awards night held

Lough Derg FC (schoolboy/girl soccer club Ballina/Killaloe) held their AGM and end of season presentation at the Lakesdie Hotel on Thursday May 26th and the following committee were elected for the coming season: Chairperson Alfie Byrne, Treasurer, Bobby Lynch, Secretary Carol Oakley, Assistant Secretary Brid McMahon,Registrar Caroline Rowley, PRO Ed Cahill, Child Protection Officer Kevin McGrattan, Assistant PRO Claire Prentice and Coaching Co-ordinator Darren Prentice.
Presentations of medals and trophies before the AGM were made to: U13b and u13a squads who won the NTSL u13 division 1 and premiership respectively in the 2009/10 season and the u16 who were runners-up in the NTSL u16 premier division. An u10 selection also received medals and the cup for their win in the Willie Boland Invitational trophy last October which they retained in the 2nd year of the event held with Newport, Ashling Anacotty, Nenagh, Rearcross and Birdhill.
Presentations were also made to 17 club players who were selected for the NTSL FAI Emerging Talent programme: Jack Brady, Thomas Conway, Conor maguire, Shane Moloney and Phelim 0' Hagan (u13s), David Kelly and Eddie Bourke (u11s) and George Kealy, Garry Quilligan, Harry Byrne, Adam Daly, Cian 0'Brien, Cian 0' Donnell, Ciaran Sheedy, Jack Lynch, Jack 0'Mahoney and James Prentice who were selected for the first NTSL FAI futsal academy programme. Indeed a special mention of congratulations to Jack Brady who has become the first club player to be selected for the FAI regional centre for emerging talent players.
The clubs website competition (www.loughdergfc.ie) to find a new official club nickname proved to be hugely successful and the winning entry was ''Lough Derg Lakers'' submitted by Cian 0'Brien who received a voucher for free entry to the upcoming FAI summer camp at St Annes Community College, from July 26th to 30th. Two runners-up James Prentice and Peter McMahon received umbro footballs for their entries.
A Coaches award was also given out to a player from each of the ten 09/10 league teams: U10a Harry Byrne, U10b Peter McMahon, U10c Conor Bourke, U10d Zak O' Farrell, U11a Ciaran Foley, U11b Thomas Mcgrath, U12 Fergal Collins, U13a Thomas Conway, U13b Tommy Reddan and U16 Marc 0'Halloran.
In all 87 awards and medals were given out on the night which was attended by over 120 parents and siblings for which the outgoing committee are very thankful for everyones attendance. The new committee elected at the AGM look forward as do all to the season ahead.
